Hi! Great site! Looking for information about Wykeses in Australia. I grew up in Victoria and all I know is that the family crest was a whippet with a human leg in its mouth ( I would assume the closest is "Wykes Heraldry - Gloucester"). I didn't know my great grandad and my grandad is, I assume, an only child. There are now 2 more generations in Victoria and thats all I know. If anyone can help with this tidbit of info...

Started by researching Wykes for my wifes friend. Then found my wifes family tree includes members of the Wykes tree. Coincidence or fate.

I am trying to find the parents names of James Wykes born around 1806/1810 possibly in Spratton.I am unable to find a baptism in either Spratton or Creaton. He married Mary Tailor in 1828 in Spratton. I need the parents to connect to the earlier tree. Can anyone help.

I have traced my tree back to Wilshire to Solomon Wicks [1789-1869). His son Alfred Wicks [1829-1911] moved to Guernsey Island. His son, James Wicks [1864-1950] moved to Tasmania [Australia]. Son Edward Wicks [1896-1967]. Son Albany Wicks [1925-1969]. Anyone with information regarding this branch of the tree is welcome to email me.

Have only just browsed through the Web for first time tonight - truly magnificent - the work involved is awesome. Ref. Family a168 William Wykes and Martha - are you aware of a second marriage BY William in 1896 when he married a Betsy Martha EMERY from Barby in 1896. In 1900 they had a son named Ernest J R Wykes. William died later that year. After that things get a little complicated. I will certainly re-visit the site, thank you, Keith Talbot. P.S. I am visiting Northamton and the Spratton Area 22nd to 24th. Oct with my uncle also Harry (Harold ) Wykes who was born in Spratton in 1930.
