I was told by a lady who was born on the Isle of Wyk or Wyk auf Fohr(that is off the coast of Denmark) that the name Wykes comes from there. That the Wykes name is from those who originated from the island and ended up on the east coast of England. Makes sense when you look at it on a map.

Wouldn't it be great if we could have a Wykes Family Reunion in Australia for the descendants of James & Susan Wykes. I'd travel across the country for it.

Hi, I have been browsing this site with interest as I too am decended from the Wykes. My grandmother was Gadie Annie Louisa Wykes born in Spratton, Northamptonshire. Her parents were Frederick Roger Wykes and Roseilla Bottoms. I can trace our family back through many generations and most lived in or near Spratton. I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks they may be related.

Stumbled upon this by accident. Love this. It continues the family tree book that was published many years ago by one of the distant relatives. We still have the book in perfect condition and I recognize A LOT of names. Originally from Islip, NY now residing in Saint Cloud, FL. would love to hear from some of you

I'm researching the parents of James Wykes 1824-1918, my GGG grandfather who immigrated from Lincolnshire to Australia. I originally had his parents as James Wykes 1784-1857 & Mary Haggarty 1787-1871 of Northhamptonshire, based on other family histories on an ancestry website. However I've just re-read an article about Mary Haggarty on this website & there's no mention of my ancestor & my aunty is suggesting that Mary Barton is his mother & James Wykes 1787-1865 is his father which makes sense as they were from Linconshire where he was born. Can anyone shed any light?
