I have done some research into my grandfather Joseph Wyke of Hill Top, West Bromwich. He was killed in the first world war in France. I am currently researching my uncle Joe, who was my father's elder brother.

My maternal grandfather, Charles Frederick Wykes, came to North London from County Cork, Ireland, at the end of the 19th century, and married Amelia at Marylebone Parish Church, London, in 1900. They had 7 children, all now deceased.

What a wonderful website. I am of the Texas branch (3rd great-granddaughter of James & Hannah). You have so much information to help my research on Wykeses before they came to America. And pictures! Thank you for doing this.

Where are you Jim Wykes? Born, I guess 1933-34, (now 77-ish) Jim, from SE England, was an Army pal (Royal Signals) in Minden W. Germany in 1954/54. I'm fit and well and have enjoyed a full and happy life in Yorkshire and travelling abroad. Jim and I visited friends in Nijmegen in '54 after completing the 'Viedaagse'. Surprise me Jim.
